Dolly Parton receives $100 million from Jeff Bezos

Country music star and philanthropist Dolly Parton receives $100 million from Amazon founder and billionaire Jeff Bezos’ Bezos Award for Courage and Civilization , which honors leaders who “seek solutions with courage and civility,” he said online.

Bezos, who also owns space rocket company Blue Origin, announced the award Friday along with his longtime partner, news anchor Lauren Sanchez.

Sanchez said on Instagram that Parton is “a woman who is dedicated and leads with love and compassion in every aspect of her work.”

“We can’t wait to see all the good things you’ll do with this $100 million bonus,” she said.

“Wow! You mean $100 million?” Parton said in a video clip of the ceremony posted online.

“I think people who are able to help should take money to heart. I will do everything I can with that money to do good things,” she said.

Parton, 76, a county, pop and gospel singer-songwriter whose songs include “I’ll Always Love You,” “Jolyn,” and many other hits over the decades, has been a Longtime philanthropist.

She donated $1 million to Vanderbilt University Medical Center to help develop a vaccine during the pandemic. Coronavirus disease Pandemic.

Parton, who was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this month, also founded a number of charities, including the Dollywood Foundation, which focuses on education and poverty alleviation.

Bezos’ awards, which began in 2001, were first awarded to activist Van Jones, who served as the founding CEO of Reform League and Legion of Dreams, and chef and humanitarian Jose Andres, who established The world’s central kitchen, providing food in the immediate aftermath of a disaster.
