Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates—“[While] The UAE has no interest in taking sides between major powers, and our key strategic relationship with the US remains clear,” said Anwar Gargash, senior diplomatic adviser to the UAE president.

speaking at the meeting opening In the 9th edition of the UAE Policy Centre’s Abu Dhabi Strategic Debate on 14 November, Gargash outlined the UAE foreign policy Regional “Zero Problems” strategy. He said the vision of the emirate, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, is that the country will continue to cooperate with other countries on key issues facing the world today, including climate changewater and food security, all close to the heart of the UAE.

Gargash said economic protectionism should not rise as tensions between world powers rise and the world becomes more polarized.

He noted that the UAE is “firmly focused” on supporting long-term economic prosperity and enhancing its soft power.

“As a middle power, we also need to be pragmatic,” he said. “We sometimes need to engage with people we find offensive,” adding that the UAE would choose “quiet diplomacy over outspoken criticism” to promote cooperation.

“We will not sacrifice our sovereignty to another country,” Gargash noted, clarifying that this is a core principle of the country’s president.

He continued that “economic linkages can exist separately from these concerns”, noting that the UAE will always support an open global trading system as it continues its mission of bringing in global talent and investment to further develop its economy.

Gargash said Sheikh Mohamed understands that the country is safer because its security does not depend on just one pillar.

“A core part of our approach is having our own effective professional defense capabilities,” Gargash said, referring to the importance of strengthening his military in the face of multiple attacks. Houthi at its fuel depot in Abu Dhabi earlier this year.

In order to do this, Gargash explained that the UAE must act as a conduit for diplomacy and common interests between East and West, from resolving climate change fight extremism.

This supports what he identifies as the fifth principle of the country’s strategy to strengthen moderate voices in the region.

“Many of the region’s challenges will be easier to address if we can address the closed-minded, reactionary extremist ideology that still affects too many people and societies in the region,” he said, noting the need for tolerance and women’s empowerment, while still insisting In line with the Islamic values of the region.

He announced the diplomatic pillars to help them achieve this, including Abraham Accordsalso opened the long-awaited abraham family home It will be a beacon of coexistence with mosques, churches and synagogues alongside the country’s capital.
