Blaine City Council approves the third public-private partnership project for Midtown Park.

In a special meeting Monday night, a unanimous vote was given to grant a 30-year lease on the land to build a $26 million movie, bowling and entertainment complex.

The ground lease is with the company that operates the Queens Theater and Palace Theater for the city.

The so-called “Schulman Cinema Bowl Grille” will feature a technologically advanced auditorium that will accommodate film, esports and conference spaces.

The complex will also feature a bowling center with at least 24 lanes, at least four indoor pickle ball courts and at least three other recreational activities. These options include darts, axe throw, bocce and shuffleboard.

The complex, which will also have an amphitheater and 250 parking spaces, will be built along Midtown Park Lake, near Villa Maria and Southern College.

Construction is expected to start next August, with an opening in September 2024.

The commission required the complex to generate at least $10 million in gross sales in its second year of operation.

When fully operational, city workers are expected to collect at least $443,000 annually in rent, property tax revenue, and sales taxes.
