Two people were killed when a Russian missile flew over NATO member Poland, a senior U.S. intelligence official said.

The Russian Ministry of Defense denied supporting “any attack on targets near the Ukrainian-Polish border” and said in a statement that the alleged photos of the sabotage “had nothing to do with” Russian weapons.

A NATO official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the alliance was investigating reports of a strike in Poland.

The National Security Council said it was also investigating the reports.

Polish government spokesman Piotr Müller did not immediately confirm the information provided by the U.S. intelligence official, who spoke on condition of anonymity due to the sensitivity of the situation.

But Mr Muller said an emergency meeting of top leaders was being held because of the “crisis situation”.

Two people were killed when a shell hit a grain drying area in the Polish village of Przewodow, near the Ukrainian border, on Tuesday afternoon, Polish media reported.

Neighboring Moldova was also affected. It reported a massive blackout after an airstrike knocked out a key power line that supplies the small country, an official said.
