UAE Space Agency launches Space Data Center project as part of UAE Government Transformation Program

Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates: The UAE Space Agency (UAESA) launched the Spatial Data Hub, a digital platform for Provided, academics, public and private entities, start-ups, and community members can access spatial data to develop solutions to national and global challenges. The Space Data Center is part of a transformational project initiated by the UAE government to realize the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, focusing on building the world’s best and most active data center. economy.

The Space Data Center aims to provide an innovative ecosystem to address global sustainable development challenges using spatial data and technologies, promote space-related solutions to overcome national challenges, and increase the number of companies and patents in the space industry. These initiatives also help attract leading innovators, accelerate the development of space products, and increase the productivity of scientific research to provide a better life for people through the use of space-related applications and services.

UAESA, in partnership with the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MOCCAE), also announced that Farmin, a UAE-based AI and remote sensing technology startup, has won the Climate Change Challenge. UAESA recently launched this challenge as part of the Spatial Analysis and Solutions (SAS) program, along with other initiatives including food security, climate change, environmental and vegetation monitoring, infrastructure and energy.

“The UAE’s participation in COP27 clearly demonstrates its passion for investing in the future, based on its deep-seated belief in the importance of knowledge in the global fight against climate change. We are always committed to launching new initiatives and projects, and Employing the latest technologies to address climate-related challenges and promote sustainable development to protect the environment and biodiversity on our planet,” Her Excellency Sarah Bint Yousif Al Amiri, Minister of State for Public Education and Advanced Technologies and Chairman of the UAE Space Agency.

The award-winning app created by Farmin supports efforts to combat climate change and enhance monitoring of greenhouse gas emissions in the Arabian Peninsula by leveraging artificial intelligence and global, up-to-date and generally available remote sensing data.

His Excellency Salem Butti Salem Al Qubaisi, Director General, UAE Space Agency Said: “During our participation in COP27, UAESA will launch several projects and initiatives aimed at realizing our vision of supporting the global space industry and scientific activities. This goal is fully in line with the desire of the UAE’s wise leadership to become relevant leading hubs, including the Space Data Hub, the first to provide scientists, academics, public and private entities, start-ups and community members with access to space data, and Farmin’s award-winning climate change app. Our priority is to support start-ups businesses, entrepreneurs and academics, which is fully in line with our vision to develop space solutions and applications to promote the UAE as a regional space innovation hub.”

The UAE has taken several measures to combat climate change, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and natural gas flaring, while increasing efficiency and investment in clean energy. With the help of remote sensing, these efforts are supported by mapping and sustainable management of greenhouse gas emissions through integrated systems.
