Indian Films: Moondance

Doors open at 6:15 pm for Hoosier Films: Moon Dance at Miller Auditorium, seats open at 6:30 pm, $5 in advance, $7 on-site. Bars and franchises will be open.

This musical comedy follows a rogue director who, with the help of his crew and outside actors, turns an ordinary Hollywood love story into a big-band musical.

Portions of the 100-minute film were shot in Huntington and South Bend.

lucky stiff

Elkhart Civic Theater

210 E. Vistula St., Bristol

“Lucky Stiff” is an alternative murder mystery slapstick musical. The story revolves around an unassuming Englishman who is forced to bring the body of his recently murdered uncle to Monte Carlo in an attempt to pretend his uncle is alive in order to inherit $6 million.

The musical was rated PG-13. Tickets will go on sale August 1.

Joe Gatto’s Comedy Night

Joe Gatto is a comedian, actor and producer, best known for the hit TV shows “Impractical Clowns” and “The Misery Index.” He was one of the founding members of the Tenderloin Comedy Troupe.

Gatto is also the co-host of the Two Cool Moms podcast and has appeared on popular podcasts including This Past Weekend with Theo Von, What A Joke with Papa, and Fortune and Life is Short with Justin Long.

Alumni Art Exhibition Opening Reception

Seven Goshen College alumni will present an exhibit titled “From Goshen College to Goshen: “Local Alumni”” at the Hershberger Art Gallery in the Goshen College Music Center, followed by an artist talk at 3 p.m.

These artists are painter Mark Daniels, ceramicist Trevor Daughtery, watercolourist and fabric artist Sibyl Graber Gerig, jeweler Caitlin Lanctot, sculptor Sunday Mahaja, watercolourist and ink drawer Brooke Rothshank and ceramicist Justin Rothshank.

Ode to Joy

The Elkhart County Symphony will be celebrating 75 years of music with a host of community artists. In February, the Goshen College Choir and the Camerata Choir will perform Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, “Ode to Joy,” at the Sauder Hall.

Tickets range from $40 for students to $120 for a mezzanine seat, with discounted entry-level four tickets for five.

Old Fashioned Christmas in Chautauqua

Chautauqua Wawasee’s Old Fashioned Christmas Celebration will feature Santa and his Reindeer including Rudolph, Frosty, The Grinch, Buddy the Elf, Toy Soldiers, Gingerbread Men, Live Nativity, Carriage Ride, Christmas photo booth and Christmas tree lighting. There will also be a reading of the Christmas story from the Bible in the historic Oakwood Chapel. Carols begin at 5:30pm and the tree lighting is at 6:15pm. Additionally, hot chocolate and cookies will be available, as well as collection boxes from the Syracuse Pantry.

Event sponsors include Town of Syracuse Parks Department, Wawasee Regional Conservation Foundation, Syracuse-Wawasee Historical Museum, Rotary Club of Syracuse-Wawasee, Wawasee Home Owners Association, Oakwood Resort, Syracuse Chamber and many more to be identified in the event program of local enterprises.

Free Movie: Elf

Buddy, played by Will Ferrell, is accidentally sent to the North Pole as a toddler and grows up among Santa’s elves. Unable to shake off his feeling of being out of place, Buddy heads to New York to find his real father. His father, Walter Hobbs (played by James Caan), is a cynical businessman who tries to form a relationship with his elf-raised son Buddy, but the results are increasingly confusing.

The film is 1 hour and 37 minutes long and is rated PG. Admission is free, but donations are recommended. Seats are limited. Doors open at 6:15pm, as will the bar and kiosk. The event is sponsored by the Elkhart County Community Foundation.

The South Bend Symphony Orchestra travels to the North Pole for the annual Shein Trust Family Concert. Based on Raymond Briggs’ children’s book “The Snowman,” an adaptation by Howard Blake presents a full orchestra with an unforgettable score, with the Notre Dame Children’s Choir praising the selection “Walking on Air,” and Several traditional carols from around the world.

Join the Aurinko Grainger Ballet for their annual performance of “The Nutcracker.”

Indianapolis director Gregory Hancock presents this youth ballet company with a modern take on a classic holiday hit.

Featuring music and dance from around the world, this ballet magically retells the story of Marius Petipa, Leo Ivanovich and Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky as a young girl Be gifted with a Nutcracker doll and join her on dream adventures, exploring the world and battling a mouse overlord.

In Aurinko Ballet’s retelling, the moral of the story is “kindness matters.”

Gingerbread Jamboree

Middlebury City Center

The Middlebury Then and Now Committee’s Gingerbread Jamboree Competition and Showcase will be held the first weekend in December. Entries do not need to be made from gingerbread, but must be made from edible materials. Entries can be submitted until November 29th.

Kits are available or can be designed from scratch. There will be cash prizes and three categories of ribbons. The competition is free to enter and free to participate during show hours.
