(Princeton, N.J.) – The Lewis Center for the Arts at Princeton University continues its Atelier@Large conversation series, bringing guest artists to campus to discuss the challenges they face in making art in the modern world. For the final event of the fall collection, rising Hollywood star and Emmy-nominated actor Jonathan Majorslast black man in san franciscoHome theater series lovecraft countryABC miniseries when we rise) with Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Paul Muldoon, Princeton Howard GB Clark ’21 University Professor of Humanities and Princeton Studio Director. The event will begin at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, November 29 at the James Stewart Cinemas at 185 Nassau Street on the Princeton campus.

The event is free and open to the public, but Tickets are required through University Ticketing. The cinema is an accessible venue, guests requiring accessible accommodations please contact the Lewis Center LewisCenter@princeton.edu At least one week before the event date.

The Princeton studio, led by Muldoon, was founded in 1994 by Nobel laureate Toni Morrison and Robert F. Goheen, professor emeritus of the humanities at Princeton University. Studios bring together professional artists from a variety of disciplines to collaborate with students to create new work over the semester-long course. Recent artists include Stew, Laurie Anderson, improv group Baby Wants Candy and Wakka Wakka Puppet Theatre. Launched in 2021, the Atelier@Large series is an extension of the Princeton studio, bringing guest artists to campus to speak on the role of art in the modern world.

“There’s a notion that’s still going on,” says Muldoon, “that art is primarily a source of comfort and pleasure. It’s all about redemption, maybe even redemption. Art is most interesting when it is most destructive. Often the change represented by a piece of art may seem small, but it can have a big impact.”

paul muldoon is the Howard GB Clark ’21 University Professor of the Humanities at Princeton University and founding chair of the Lewis Center for the Arts.An internationally renowned Irish poet, Malden has been described as times literary supplement Known as “the most important English poet born since World War II”. Muldoon wins Pulitzer Prize for ninth book of poetry, Moi Sand and Gravel (2002). His fourteenth book of poems, okayIE-shell, released November 2021 by Farrar Straus & Giroux. Muldoon is editor of the recently released two-volume box set of Paul McCartney, Lyrics: 1956 to present, unraveling the stories behind McCartney’s 154 lyrics. His latest book, Fortified Castle Watercolors by Philip Pearlstein, to be published this month.
