In the third week, the “Our Summer is Culture and Creativity” summer camp for children and teenagers carried out a wide range of contemporary activities inspired by the cultural heritage of the UAE to cultivate the curiosity of participants, enrich their learning and creativity, and enhance Their values and their legacy.
After two weeks of arts and literature activities in the camp, the Dubai Culture and Arts Bureau (Dubai Culture) will lead participants on a journey of rich local and international heritage in the third week, from August 15th to 21st. In the Al Safa Art and Design Library, children between the ages of 6 and 12 will appreciate a series of popular stories such as “Khattaf Rafai” in Abu Hul, Dubai, “Baba Zayed and his love for heritage” by Salha Ghobash, and “Ghadira and Fatima Al Nuaimi’s Magical Taki’, in addition to stories and competitions about proverbs, there are workshops where they will learn traditional tools and handicrafts. Children will also start virtual visits to the Dubai Museum and learn basic research methods through Al Mandoos games , And explore many UAE and international flavors through the “Friends in Food” workshop.
In the Hada Library, children will learn about stories about how their ancestors lived and ate in the past through myths, folk tales and various interesting and interactive heritage competitions, as well as stories about their use of folk medicine to treat diseases.Participants will also look forward to enjoying a virtual tour of Hada this week, introducing them to its tourism and heritage sites, which are full of tourist attractions and beautiful natural elements.
This week will also focus on getting children (3 years and older) to improve discipline and develop mental arithmetic skills through English courses. During this time, they will learn to use abacus at Umm Suqeim, Al Mankhool and Al Twar libraries. In addition, Umm Suqeim Library has prepared a story reading session based on the story “Sleep with the Scorpion” written by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, as well as a trip to the Dubai Museum, Cooking workshops and heritage workshops where children will learn “Talli” crafts and jewellery as well as traditional UAE costumes. In the Al Mankhool Library, children will explore the world heritage in the reading session of Chinese stories, and there will also be a dragon painting workshop. Children will also have the opportunity to enter the architectural world of Dubai, a global city based on real UAE values, through the “Design Dubai: City of the Future” seminar.
The children of Al Twar Library will learn about the hope and positive role in facing challenges and creating the future in the “Hope forever” workshop. During this time, they will learn about some of the challenges that their ancestors must endure and how they overcome them The children will also enjoy another workshop inspired by the wisdom of their ancestors, and enjoy folk games, and end their week with a pottery coloring workshop, which will strengthen the importance of their handicrafts and how to combine them with art.
In the Al Rashidiya Library, children will explore the world of traditional games in the United Arab Emirates. They will also enjoy the reading course of “My Little World Series” written by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. Through two virtual English workshops, children will learn more about the world of falcons and camels through an interesting story. They will also enrich their knowledge of the colors of the UAE flag and the story of the UAE people and their unique culture.
In Hor Al Anz Library, children will enjoy a heritage contest and short films about the UAE. In addition, they can learn how to paint on shells, which will help them express their artistic creativity by developing natural resources.The children will also learn about UAE cuisine, delicacies and their cooking methods in the “International People’s Day” workshop, and enrich their understanding of the customs and heritage of different peoples in the world.
