Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz believes Ferrari can challenge Red Bull at Sunday’s Abu Dhabi Grand Prix after finishing fourth on Yas Island.
The speed shown by Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz in Saturday’s final practice session was a relief for Maranello’s side.
Monaco was third as Sainz finished the all-Ferrari second row behind Red Bull’s Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez.

Lewis Hamilton and George Russell finished fifth and sixth respectively for Mercedes – and while Sainz hopes to go further, Ferrari is aiming to beat Mercedes at the checkered flag.
“I think they’re within reach, but at the same time, they’re the fastest car this weekend,” Sainz told sky sports.
“Tomorrow we’ll do our best to overtake them, but if they’re three tenths quicker in qualifying, usually they’re half a second quicker. [clear in the race].
“So there are always some gaps in the race, but the important thing is that today we beat Mercedes, they looked quick all weekend. We have a good chance of beating them tomorrow.”
For the second-place race, Sainz is confident the 16-time champions can cement their 19-point advantage over Mercedes, who broke a constructors’ record eight consecutive titles in 2022 but were beaten by Red Bull. .
“I think we can keep it tomorrow,” said an optimistic Spaniard.
“I think we’re capable of keeping it. We’ll give it our all tomorrow, but personally, I’d love to be on the podium at the end of the season.”
