[ad_1]

NEW YORK, Nov. 20 (PTI) — Former U.S. President Donald Trump’s Twitter account was backed up again after the social media company’s new owner, Elon Musk, tweeted that the account would be restored.

“People are vocal. Trump will be reinstated. Vox Populi, Vox Dei,” Musk tweeted Saturday.

Musk conducted an online poll asking whether Trump’s Twitter account should be reinstated. In a poll that received 15,085,458 votes, 51.8 percent voted in favor and 48.2 percent opposed reinstating the former US president’s Twitter account.

As of Saturday night, Trump’s Twitter account appears to have been restored, with the last tweet dated January 8, 2021, in which Trump said: “To all who ask, I will not be attending 1 Inauguration on 20th March.”

Trump was permanently suspended from the social media site in January 2021, just days after pro-Trump supporters attempted an insurrection at the U.S. Capitol.

Twitter’s top lawyer, Indian-American Vijaya Gadde, spearheaded the dramatic decision to suspend the former US president’s Twitter account. Gadde had tweeted, “Due to the risk of further violence, @realDonaldTrump’s account has been permanently suspended from Twitter. Twitter executives including Gadde, Chief Executive Officer Parag Agrawal, Legal Executive Chief Financial Officer Ned Segal and General Counsel Sean Edgett were fired immediately after Musk bought the social media company for $44 billion.

When Trump’s Twitter account was restored, it showed he had 1 million followers, and that number ballooned to 2.1 million in less than 30 minutes.
