On Saturday, Dec. 3, the couple hopes to bring people together in the event space at Frog Level Brewing for Jingle Jam, a benefit show for REACH that will feature seven up-and-coming local acts.
“Music is so universal, it brings us all together,” Schneider said. “We’re so crazily divided right now. One of the things music does is bring us together. I love this town, I love living here. And what could be better than maybe helping women and children and families out of trouble What’s a good reason?”
Jingle Jam will feature 12 consecutive hours of live music and networking. Andrew Scotchie and David Earl will be from noon to 1pm and the Appalachian Renegades will be from 1-2:15pm. The evening continues with Arnold Hill, Jackson Green, Pink Bed, Get Right and Abby Bryant & Echo. On Friday night, Adamas will host a prep party at The Scotsman in Waynesville, featuring music by the Tricia Ann Band, and tickets for the next day’s event will be on sale.
“The opportunity to see all these bands come together in one place for such a great cause is something that has never happened in Haywood County, ever. That’s the point,” Schneider said.
Tickets for the show are $12, and guests are encouraged to come and go as they please to enjoy all that downtown Waynesville has to offer during the holidays. All profits will benefit REACH in Haywood County. In addition to ticket sales, organizers are seeking local businesses and community members to sponsor the event at different levels, and gain brand awareness and VIP tickets to the event.
“Since this is the first year, we’re treating it as what we call a friend fundraiser rather than a fundraiser,” Freeman said. “So we’re going to be there on the day of the event in full force, promoting our name, putting out our message, and letting the community know what we’ve done and what we can do for those in crisis and those in need.”
REACH is a local 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides assistance to survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault and elder abuse. It provides a number of services to the community, including a 24-hour helpline for victims of domestic violence, emergency shelters for survivors and displaced children, court and legal assistance for survivors in the justice system, counseling for survivors of domestic violence Provides permanent housing assistance to help survivors transition into a safe home.
While this is the first Jingle Jam, the partners hope the collaboration will continue to hold annual benefit shows for years to come.
“We look forward to working with Adamas Entertainment and Frog Level Brewing,” Freeman said. “So we want people to show up and have a good time. That’s a big part of that too. Have a good time and enjoy the music.”
Over 50% of Heywood County REACH’s funding comes from the local community, whether it’s the municipality, the REACH Thrift Store, the United Way of Heywood County, or local donors and supporters. Federal and state funds make up a small portion of funding.
“That’s why this benefit is so important to us,” Freeman said. “Our agency’s last fundraiser was in 2019, and this has been an integral part of ensuring we can meet the needs of our visitors. During the pandemic, we have been unable to do any local fundraising.”
While fundraising opportunities may have stalled during the pandemic, the demand for REACH services has continued unabated. The organization was forced to try to meet the increased demand while coping with staff restrictions due to health guidelines.
“The two significant increases that we’ve seen, the first is the growth of mental health services,” Freeman said. “We do individual counseling for adults, and that number has doubled throughout the pandemic and is still very high. And then another is our court staff. During this time, they’ve seen the need for protective orders increased.”
As the end of the year and the holidays approach, Schneider is always eager to give back to the community he lives in and holds dear.
“REACH was something that immediately came to my mind,” Schneider said. “They’re direct connections. If you have a question or problem, those people are there. It’s a way we can all help people, have a direct impact on our communities, make them better.”
Schneider has worked in the music industry for over 20 years, first as a sound engineer at South Florida’s largest stadium and then as a production manager for the Florida Philharmonic. The names of the countless musicians and bands Schneider has performed on stage over the years — from Madonna to Ray Charles and Pavarotti — sound like any music geek’s dream festival lineup; in breadth and depth is impossible.
Adamas Entertainment, a production company that brings live music to North Carolina’s rural west, started about three years ago, even as the idea germinated more than a decade ago, right as the world plunged headlong into the pandemic. And the silence of the shutdown preceded the live music industry.
While the first few years were tough, the production company survived for two reasons. First of all, this is a labor of love. After years in the music industry, Schneider set out to build a house for change. But after only so long, his enthusiasm returned and he knew he needed to bring people together again. Second, because it’s a family matter. Schneider’s son is Adamas’ stage manager, while his daughter-in-law runs everything.
Schneider’s best friend Garret K. Woodward, co-founder of Adamas and editor of Smoky Mountain News Arts & Entertainment, runs the show.
“Music is what we all have in common, whether it’s the songs we like, the bands we admire, or the live performances we might attend,” Woodward said. “For everyone at a particular show, they’re there for a specific reason, and at that moment, the common denominator is a shared love and passion for the artist or band. Someone loves a song or finds themselves at a concert with A million reasons, but the soothing effect of the music is a shared experience between everyone present on both sides of the microphone.”
“Most of all, we love the music, we love the community, it’s such a beautiful place, and the music just brings it all together,” Schneider said. “This place embodies our love of music, friendship and our surroundings.”
While Schneider looks forward to every show Adamas puts on for the community, this show holds a special place in his heart.
“It’s bigger than Adamas Entertainment,” Schneider said. “Adamas Entertainment is fun. In some cases, REACH is a matter of life and death.”

A fundraiser for Heywood REACH, the inaugural “Jingle Jam” will feature a full day of live music and networking at Frog Level Brewing’s brand new event space in Waynesville.
