Abu Dhabi will plant 1 million mangroves to achieve net zero and is relying on the role of the private sector to achieve it, a senior official said on Wednesday.

“By 2030, we will plant 1 million mangroves to capture carbon emissions because it is a good natural solution,” Abdulla Al Remeithi, director of integrated environmental policy and planning at the Abu Dhabi Environment Agency, told The Journey to the Journey said in the group discussion of to.Hosted by Net Zero Forum harrij times.

“Climate change is one of the major global risks and the UAE was one of the first countries in the MENA region to adopt and sign the Paris Agreement. Al Remeithi said the private sector is also involved in initiatives related to net zero.

“We’re counting on the private sector because it has an important role to play in climate goals and it’s a shared responsibility.”

He praised Egypt’s efforts at the recent Cop27 summit as the country was pushing a different agenda. Cop28 will be held in the UAE next year.
