Nicholas Pooran broke an easy 77-match unbeaten streak with eight sixes and five boundaries in the second match of the ongoing Abu Dhabi T10 League at the Zayed Cricket Stadium, Zahoor of the UAE Khan provided some impressive bowling for the Deccan Gladiators in a 35-run win over Abu Dhabi.
Pooran hit 77* to give the Deccan Gladiators an impressive total of 134 for 6 on Wednesday. Abu Dhabi’s batting failed to meet the challenge with just 99 runs from 6 offs, with the Deccan winning by 35 runs.
The Deccan gladiators won the throw and opted to bat. They lost an early wicket when Naveen Ul Haq bowled Will Smeed cleanly in the second ball of the first over. Opener Nicholas Pooran started aggressively attacking Naveen Ul Haq’s fifth and sixth overs, scoring six runs in a row.
In the second over, Pooran hit Andrew Tye’s fourth, fifth and sixth balls out of bounds in the first over. Joining Pooran’s Tom Kohler-Cadmore, he hit Mustafizur Rahman’s third over for six overs. He also hit a second boundary. Mustafizur finished with 18 runs.
The fourth inning turned out to be eventful, with Peter Harzoglu hitting twice. He pitched Kohler-Cadmore clean first for 13 runs. One ball later, he allowed Indian batsman Suresh Raina to be caught by Tye for a duck. But Pooran went on to shoot a six and had another with extra cover from Fabian Allen. However, David Weiss scored 1 point in that game. At the end of the fifth quarter, the Deccan Gladiators went 4-for-61 from the field in a disturbing way.
Hatzoglou didn’t let the batter hit any boundaries or sixes in the sixth. Pooran couldn’t be tied down for long and he hit Tye for two sixes in the seventh. He reached his half century with 26 balls through the border near Mustafizur.

Lynn hit UAE’s Sultan Ahmed, who hit the second for three. Another UAE bowler and pacer, Zahoor Khan, took Alex Hales’ wicket in the third innings and was caught by Little in deep for eight. Incoming James Vince started hitting two of Zahoor’s boundaries in a row.
The Deccan Gladiators also got rid of Lynn in the fourth inning when Tabraiz Shamsi threw 14 runs. It was a fine performance from Shamsi, who conceded just four runs and even took a wicket. James Vince ignited hope with two sixes and a Weiss boundary in the fifth, scoring 19 runs. Abu Dhabi 58-2 at the halfway point needed some big hits to reach the goal.
Sultan Ahmed re-emerged in the sixth and Fabian Allen hit him twice in a row. James Vince batted for 33 when 24 balls remaining required 63. Little finished an excellent seventh after previously beating Vince’s leg with 37 points and conceding just six. Abu Dhabi require a run rate of 19.
The Deccan Gladiators took firm control of the game in the eighth inning when Helm had Brandon King out and his first ball was caught by Little deep in the middle wicket for a run. He also dropped just seven points. With 50 runs needed from 12 balls, the Deccan Gladiators made the kill and limited them to 6 for 99 from 10 overs.
