Abu Dhabi strengthens electric vehicle charging governance through unified tariffs

[ad_1]

The Abu Dhabi Department of Energy (DoE), in collaboration with relevant parties, approved the new Emirate’s electric vehicle (EV) charging governance framework.

In order to achieve the Abu Dhabi government’s strategy to strengthen the electric transportation sector and its climate goals, the framework aims to strengthen the integration of electricity and transportation networks, and encourage the participation of the private sector and consumers to support the growth of electric vehicle use in Abu Dhabi.

The approved governance framework requires the installation of sub-meters on electric vehicle charging devices in private residential and commercial buildings, defining a flat rate for all registered units, and the Abu Dhabi Electricity Distribution Company (ADDC) and Al Ain Electricity Distribution Company (AADC) It monitors consumption and strengthens the public charging system, which currently has 200 charging devices available to the public throughout the emirate.

From August 26, 2021, a monthly electricity bill of 92 dirhams will be added to the monthly ADDC/AADC bill until a submeter is installed for the EV charging device. After the charging unit has registered and installed the submeter, the electricity price of 30 phils per kilowatt-hour will be uniformly implemented. Starting today, owners of electric vehicle charging devices can register and install sub-meters.

Electricity consumption will be monitored from the date of electricity price implementation, so owners of public and private charging units must register with ADDC or AADC by filling out the registration form provided on their website (www.addc.ae or www.aadc.ae), As follows: as soon as possible.

DoE has provided a grace period for owners of private charging devices to install sub-meters until December 31, 2021. ADDC and AADC will install sub-meters for all registered units for free before the end of the year. After that, violators will be fined.

Chairman of DoE, Eng. Awaidha Al Marar said: “Abu Dhabi continues to take decisive action and regard electrification as a key way to promote the energy transition and achieve the Emirates’ decarbonization goals. As transportation is one of the largest sources of greenhouse gas emissions, electric vehicles are reducing carbon dioxide emissions, There is great potential for improving air quality and creating new industries. The introduction of a new flat rate to manage electric vehicle charging is a strategic step that will complement our existing electric vehicle charging station regulations and will provide private investors in the emirate The development of a network of charging stations creates momentum and at the same time encourages more people to consider electric vehicles.”
