Speaking at a university graduation ceremony in Abu Dhabi, a minister said that the UAE offers a world-class inclusive education system that supports students of all backgrounds to learn and grow.

Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi celebrates its 13th cohort, with Emirati graduates making up 54% of the class of 2022, which includes 233 graduates: 145 Bachelors, 73 Masters and 15 Executive Diploma graduates.

Reem bint Ebrahim Al Hashimy, Minister of State for International Cooperation and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi, praised the diversity of the class, stressing that it embodies the university’s motto: Bridges between Civilizations.

“Of course, adaptability is another part of the DNA of the UAE. Like you, the country is young, flexible and forward-looking, but not so young anymore, and unambiguous in its promotion of empathy, understanding and cooperation What is clear is that we have built a world-class education system that leaves no one behind, driven by the continued embrace of technology, grounded in gender equality and inclusion, and underpinned by unparalleled creativity and innovation,” the minister said.

“It is evident in the jobs that await our graduates here in the UAE that new opportunities in both established and rapidly emerging sectors will only reinforce our reputation as a destination of choice for talent and a source of future talent.”

The ceremony at the Emirates Palace marked the first batch of 35 graduates of the Bachelor of Records Management and Archival Science.

The graduates are from French studies, applied foreign languages, geography and planning, history, archeology and art history, law, economics and management, philosophy and sociology, science and engineering, sports and other majors.

Professor Nathalie Drach-Temam, Rector of the Sorbonne University and Vice-Chairman of the Sorbonne Abu Dhabi Board of Trustees, commended the contribution of staff, administration and departments to the success of students and graduates.

“At the Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi, we are committed to maintaining the university’s tradition of excellence in French-language education and delivering a multidisciplinary education that prepares future global leaders to meet tomorrow’s major transformational challenges,” she said.

She explained how these efforts truly exemplify the University’s mission to provide excellent French-language educational opportunities aimed at developing global leaders and thinkers, fostering dialogue, and creating harmony among cultures and civilizations.

“There are approximately 65 different nationalities at Abu Dhabi Sorbonne University and this diversity makes life on our campus extremely rich and stimulating. Our students not only gain academic knowledge but also learn about what multiculturalism means and how to make the most of it succeed; they gain openness and knowledge of the world,” notes Professor Drach-Temam.
