Who were the UAE officials who visited the Arshad Sharif Hotel?

London: A United Arab Emirates (UAE) government official visited slain journalist Arshad Sharif at the Millennium Hotel in Dubai on 19 August, Geo News has learned.

Salim Abdullah’s name appears in official documents prepared by Pakistani investigators to establish facts surrounding the murder of Arshad Sharif, who was murdered in October 2022 Killed in Kenya on the 23rd.

A two-man team comprising FIA president Atal Wahid and IB deputy director-general Omar Shahid Hamid wrote in a report, “Emirati official Salim Al Mr Abdullah met Arshad Sharif at the Millennium Al Bashirah Hotel in Dubai on August 19 (between 2pm and 4pm UAE time)”.

Pakistani investigators have sent a letter to the Pakistani Consulate General in Dubai, asking the Pakistani team to cooperate with the Dubai police to identify “Salim Abdullah”. Arshad Sharif arrived in Kenya the following day, 20 August, he received an invitation letter from Waqar Ahmad, his brother Kuram Ahmad Khurram Ahmad drove him when he was assassinated. Waqar Ahmad told the police that he invited and hosted Arshad Sharif at the request of Tariq Wasi.

The Pakistan fact-finding team has written a second letter to Dubai authorities to provide information that has not been shared with Pakistan despite two requests so far.

The fact-finding team requested a long list of items to assist in the investigation: copies of visas issued to Arshad Sharif and related travel documents; identification of Arshad Sharif’s residence during his stay in Dubai from 10 to 20 August; any CCTV footage from the premises ; Map of Arshad Sharif’s activities during his stay in Dubai; Any information about anyone he met during his stay; Clarification on whether Arshad Sharif’s visa was cancelled, and if so, why; The Dubai number that Arshad used during his stay call detail records (CDR); entry and exit data for Pakistani passport holders between August 10 and 20; and any information on whether UAE government officials met Arshad Sharif and asked him to leave the country.

The Pakistani team has written to the Consulate General in Dubai to coordinate with the UAE authorities to help obtain call detail records (CDRs) of the Dubai numbers of Tariq Wasi and Salman Iqbal. Both of them have denied any involvement in the murder.

The fact-finding team has sent a letter to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan stating that it has gone to Dubai on November 14, 2022 to conduct a several-day investigation, and asked the consul general to cooperate with the Dubai police to provide data. “However, the necessary information/records have not been provided. Hence, the relevant UAE authorities are requested to provide the necessary data to complete the fact-finding process as the Supreme Court of Pakistan has directed the filing of the report,” it said.

The team also disclosed that it wanted to interview Mr. Arsalan Satti, who was stationed at the visa section of the Consulate General, to appear before the team, but Mr. Satti did not appear. Pakistani investigators have now asked Mr Satti to appear in court on November 28, 2022.

The fact-finding team also wrote to the police chiefs in Islamabad, Sindh and Balochistan asking them to issue notifications to those who registered cases against Arshad Sharif and others. Notifications have been served to Ghulam Murtaza Chandio who has FIR registration against Arshad Sharif in Islamabad; Ashiq Ali, Tayyab Hussain, Amir Ali and Abdur Rauf in Sindh and Muhammad Ayub, Shah Muhammad and another in Balochistan people.

The FIA ​​also issued a notice to Syed Tasneem Haider Shah, who claimed that the assassination plot against PTI chief Imran Khan and slain senior journalist Arshad Sharif was orchestrated by the PMLN in London, but admitted he had no evidence to back his claims. It is said that Prime Minister Imran Khan’s gunmen have arrived in Kenya and that belongings of Arshad Sharif have arrived in London.
