KATHMANDU, Nov. 26 (PTI) Nepal’s parliament-led ruling coalition led by Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba maintained its lead in Nepal’s parliamentary elections on Saturday, winning 77 of the 148 declared seats. seats.

Of the 275 members of the House of Representatives, 165 will be elected through direct ballots and the remaining 110 through proportional elections.

A political party or coalition needs 138 seats to win an absolute majority in the House of Representatives.

The Nepal Congress (NC) won only 48 seats under the direct voting system.

Its allies, the Nepal Maoist Center and the United Socialist Nepal Party, won 16 seats and 10 seats. Lokatantrik Samajwadi and Rastriya Janamorcha won two and one seats respectively. They are all part of a ruling coalition.

The opposition coalition led by former prime minister KP Sharma Oli’s CPN-UML secured 46 seats.

CPN-UML won 38 seats.

The CPN-UML partners – the Rastriya Prajatantra party and the Janata Samajwadi party – won five and three seats respectively.

The newly formed Lastrias Vatantra Party won 7 seats. Nagarik Unmukti Party, Nepal Workers and Peasants Party and Janamat Party won 3, 1 and 1 seat respectively.

Independent and others took 13 seats.

Elections for the House of Representatives (HoR) and seven provincial assemblies were held on Sunday. Counting of votes began on Monday.
