A UAE minister on Saturday issued a warning to companies caught taking advantage of the government’s salary support scheme for the UAE.

Dr. Abdurrahman Al Awal, UAE Minister of Human Resources and Emiratisation, said in a statement that many companies are reducing wages for Emirati job seekers.

The companies reportedly told Emirati job seekers that they would pay them less because the UAE government’s Nafis scheme would give them a raise when they were hired anyway.

Al Awar stressed that the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (Mohre) has vowed to address and deal with any such abuse.

“Some of these negative practices are considered to be clear violations of the provisions of Federal Decree No. 33 of 2021 on labor relations – as it is discrimination between persons and affects career opportunities in the labor market,” he said.

“We reiterate that Mohre will resolutely enforce the necessary procedures for any attempt to misuse policies and decisions related to Emiratisation, including for the benefit of Nafis.”

The minister called on job seekers in the UAE – and those working in the private sector – to report any unfair labor practices. They can contact Mohre on 600590000.

Earlier this week, the UAE government announced Wage support scheme expanded to UAE Employed in the private and banking sectors.

Citizens whose monthly salary is less than Dh30,000 will receive a subsidy. The scheme will provide monthly grants of up to Dh7,000 for those with a bachelor’s degree; Dh6,000 for diploma holders; and Dh5,000 for high school graduates. It also provides child support for employees and temporary financial help in the event of unemployment.
