Jay Leno returns to stage two weeks after horrific crash | Entertainment

Jay Leno returned to the stage on Sunday (27.11.22) – just two weeks after suffering serious burns in a horrific accident.

The 72-year-old TV presenter underwent skin grafts after suffering injuries to his face, hands and chest when one of his cars burst into flames while in his garage earlier this month.

He gave his first performance since the ordeal at the Comedy and Magic Club in Hermosa Beach, Calif., over the weekend.

Accompanied by his wife Mavis, Jay was greeted by a “Welcome Back Jay” sign, Entertainment Tonight reported.

The comic downplays the accident and his burns before doing his usual stand-up.

Arsenio Hall, who opened for Jay, quipped: “No comedian leaves Grossman Burn Center to stand up at Hermosa on Sunday!

“I lost my big toenail after someone stepped on my foot at the Super Bowl last year. I canceled three stand-up sessions after that.”

After 10 days in hospital last week from the burns unit, Jay insisted he was “fine”.

According to a New York Post Page Six column, he told the paparazzi: “[I’m] hang in there. everything is fine. “

The former “Tonight Show” host underwent two transplants to remove unhealthy tissue and promote healing after he was burned while repairing his 115-year-old car.

A 1907 white steam car exploded due to fuel leaks and sparks, requiring him to be hospitalized.

Dr. Peter Grossman, an orthopedic surgeon and medical director of the Grossman Burn Center at West Hills Hospital in Los Angeles, recently recounted how Jay – an avid car collector – suffered “severe” and “deep” second-degree burns, and a “probable” incident There were some third-degree burns after the incident, but he is expected to make a “full recovery”.

“We hope that when all is said and done, he will do well,” the surgeon told a news conference.

“But the burn is progressive and dynamic and it’s hard to conclusively predict what the end result will be at this stage of the game.

“He seemed like a gentleman, really just didn’t want to make a fuss. He wanted to move forward, he wanted to get back to work.

“I had to tell him he needed to take a step back and just realize some of it [this] needs time. “

Shortly after the incident, Jay said: “I got burned pretty badly by the petrol fire. I’m fine. It just takes a week or two to get back on my feet.”
