ABU DHABI: The decks of the first overseas campus of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in Abu Dhabi have been cleared.
The Minister of State for Education was quoted by the Emirates News Agency (WAM) as saying that at the first ADEK-IIT meeting, both parties introduced their organizations and expressed their desire and enthusiasm to move forward with the project,
“For this purpose, the Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge was identified as the relevant institution in the UAE. At the first meeting of ADEK-IIT, both parties introduced their respective organizations and expressed their desire and enthusiasm to move forward with the project ,” Sarkar was quoted as saying by WAM.
The Indian Minister outlined the sequence and progress of IIT’s outreach activities in the UAE, “At the second ADEK-IIT meeting, ADEK invited representatives of the Ministry of Economic Development and Advanced Technology Research Council, who delivered presentations on economic development. Respectively Abu Dhabi’s vision and research priorities.”
“At the request of ADEK, IIT Delhi presented the model followed by the old IITs guiding the new IITs and shared the experience of guiding IIT Ropar and IIT Jammu,” he added.
On February 18, 2022, India announced the establishment of its first Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in the UAE as part of the trade agreement signed between India and the UAE.
Since then, the two sides have been in contact to discuss follow-up measures. IIT Delhi has a small team stationed on the map of Abu Dhabi to implement the proposal.
This will be the first time that an IIT has been established abroad.
IITs are the national institutions of India and there are currently 23 IITs in the country. These 23 IITs are located in various parts of the country and offer programs at undergraduate (UG), postgraduate (PG) and doctoral (Ph.D.) levels. The top IITs in India are IIT Delhi, IIT Bombay, IIT Kharagpur and IIT Madras. IIT is mainly known for offering B Tech and M Tech degree programs.
