Looking ahead to the new year, Dubai-based architect, entrepreneur and founder of boutique design studio Concept ME, Nina Parvaresh, outlines her key trend predictions for the design world. these are:
*Alabaster lighting fixtures
Few items bring true poetic and emotional appeal to a space like alabaster lighting fixtures. From a design standpoint, these captivating pieces have a subtle strangeness that conveys a reflective allure.
These elegant statement pieces have a timeless, ethereal side and natural appeal. The way the light seems to emanate from the alabaster itself rather than from the light sources within it creates an atmosphere that not only complements the space but draws all attention to its mood.
*Indoor/Outdoor Health
When it comes to biophilic design, we think it’s a design trend that will never go out of fashion. Our living culture is shifting towards healthy and natural living. Infusing natural and organic elements such as plants, stones and rattan into our spaces is an important step in this direction.
Promoting an appealing marriage between outdoor and indoor living can change the tone and bring a fresh breath to the narrative of a space. Space dominates the overall mood of the occupants, so we believe that natural and clear emotions are the best choice!
* Fabric pattern
Great design never goes out of style, even if it fades a little. What we are obsessed with right now is beautiful fabrics. Over the past few years, the trend has been towards minimalist designs and avoiding patterns. But we think it’s time for upholstery fabrics to come back!
With its dramatic and soulful nature, patterns on fabrics from drapes to armchair upholstery can bring a lot of mood to a space and contribute to its overall look and feel. They can also break the buzz of that grim modernist look and give it some life!
* Design for the environment
We don’t see this as a growing trend, but one that should be a guideline! The environment of your space needs to inform its design. Simply put, you can no more design a Parisian-inspired interior if your apartment is in a mountainous landscape, any more than you can have a coastal space in a Manhattan apartment.
We believe that being effective and keeping the storytelling of spaces authentic is to reflect the external realities and inspirations of your surroundings into your living spaces, using the stories of your physical areas as mood boards! That way, you can keep it authentic and feel good about it.
*Sustainable use of vintage items
More an environmental necessity than a trend, sustainability has become a major focus in the world of design. The advent of fast fashion in furniture and the mass production of furniture has had a considerable impact on the environment and the value of items within the industry.
That’s why we believe reusing objects, from antiques to timeless vintage items, is a beautiful way to go in 2023 and beyond. It uses high-quality components, allowing you to bring something of value and something with a worn and timeless character into your space. Plus, you can do something for the environment!
Of her boutique agencies, Parvaresh says it was founded out of a desire to design and redefine human interaction with space in a multisensory way.
“As a boutique agency accepting projects of all scopes and scales, Concept Me aims to be versatile, organic and eclectic in a way that exceeds the design industry’s expectations of excellence,” she said.
“In breaking down the technocratic boundaries of design and decor curation, the Concept Me team combined the metaphorical elements of abstract thought and visionary design with the detail-oriented and technical factors involved in the execution process. The aesthetics of the inspirational sketches were meticulously constructed. In dusty venues,” she added.trade arab news agency
