Dr. Jitendra Singh, Minister of Space, Science and Technology Union, will visit the UAE on 5 December 2022 to participate in the inaugural Abu Dhabi Space Debate. Singh will speak alongside Israeli President Isaac Herzog at the opening of the Abu Dhabi space debate.
In his opening address, Jitendra Singh will highlight India’s recent policy reforms in the space sector. He will also participate in a ministerial plenary meeting on “The Role of Foreign Policy in Promoting Space Diplomacy and International Cooperation” alongside the UAE Foreign Ministers, Bahraini Foreign Ministers and Israel’s Minister of Advanced Technologies.
He will hold delegation-level talks with Sarah Al-Amiri, UAE Minister of State for Advanced Technologies and Chairperson of the UAE Space Agency, to discuss ways to further strengthen bilateral space cooperation between the two countries, according to a release ahead of the visit by Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh.

In 2016, the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) and the United Arab Emirates Space Agency (UAESA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cooperation in the exploration and use of outer space for peaceful purposes. Notably, the UAE’s first nanosatellite, ‘Nayif-1’, designed to collect ambient space data, was launched from Sriharikota by the PSLV.
According to the press release, the “huge potential” of India and the UAE in the space sector will be a new dimension to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries. According to a pre-departure release of Dr. Jitendra Singh’s visit, the UAE is an emerging space power in the region, having made great strides in space travel over the past 25 years.
In July 2020, the UAE launched a Mars mission called the Hope Probe, which will enter Mars orbit in February 2021. The UAE is the first and the sixth Arab country in the world to launch a mission to Mars. The UAE also plans to launch the Rashid rover to the moon.
This year, another Emirati astronaut was selected to travel to the International Space Station on NASA’s crew rotation flight for six months. India and the UAE have “very close and friendly relations,” according to the press release.
Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, relations between the two countries were upgraded to a comprehensive strategic partnership in 2017.India and the UAE signed a comprehensive economic partnership agreement earlier this year in which they intend to boost bilateral trade to $100 billion over the next five years from the existing $72 billion
