Puran leads Gladiators to Abu Dhabi title

Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, CMC – The Deccan Gladiators beat Kieron Pollard’s New York forwards by 37 points to claim the Abu Dhabi T10 title yesterday, with Man of the Match Nicholas Plane playing another key role.

The Gladiators were called to bat first in the final at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium as they scored a challenging 128 off 4 from 10 overs, with South African all-rounder David Weiss scoring an unbeaten 18-ball 43 Highest, captain Pooran with 23 balls in 40 balls.

In response, the forwards went 4-29 and never really recovered, finishing 91-5.

Skipper Pollard, who retired with injury in the eighth innings, topped the scoring with 56 off 14 balls and 23 off 15 balls, while Englishman Jordan Thompson remained unbeaten with 22 off 17 overs. West Indies left-arm spinner Akeal Hosein (2-16) gave the strikers a strong start when he knocked out two openers from Suresh Raina (7) and Tom Kohler-Cadmore (11), but Pooran fought back Lead the Gladiators to revive.

The left-hander, who recently stepped down as captain of the West Indies White team, added 29 fours and a six in the third wicket with international team-mate Andre Russell (9) and three in the fourth. Irish seamer Josh Little (2-4) and Pakistani pacer Mohammad Hasnain (2-14) then disrupted the forwards’ top order before Pollard and Thompson attempted to regroup in the fifth wicket partnership.

By the time Pollard limped away after striking 4 and 2 sixes, the required run rate was out of control, allowing the Gladiators to wind down the game with ease. Pullan finished the game as the leading batsman with an average of 345 for 49 runs.
