World News | Situation in Afghanistan, regional security top concerns at Delhi Central Asia ministerial meeting

New Delhi [India]Dec. 6 (ANI): Counter-terrorism, regional security and the situation in Afghanistan were the main issues at a meeting of “National Security Advisors/Secretaries of the Security Council” of Central Asian countries gathered in the nation’s capital on Tuesday.

Addressing Central Asian representatives here, Uzbekistan Security Council Secretary Viktor Makmudov said today’s agenda is important for coordinating efforts to ensure regional security and expand practical cooperation in Afghanistan.

“We should not leave Afghanistan alone and left to fend for itself to deal with social, economic and humanitarian crises,” he said. “Because this will lead to increased poverty in the region. Peace in Afghanistan is important because it also has new Strategic possibilities and opportunities, it can be a growth and transportation corridor and market for the region.”

Nasrulo Mahmozoda, secretary of the Security Council of Tajikistan, said that against the backdrop of instability and uncertainty in different parts of the world, new challenges and threats such as cybercrime, cyberterrorism and environmental and biological threats are emerging.

He emphasized that the highly destructive ideology of religious radicalism is developing rapidly. “In this case, safety issues remain a priority for us.”

“It is impossible to ensure international security without resolving internal conflicts. The situation in Afghanistan remains the most complex. Tajikistan is committed to working closely with all countries to ensure peace, security and stability in our region and in Afghanistan,” he added.

Kyrgyz Security Council Secretary Marat Imankulov noted that the Central Asian country and India share common interests in developing measures to combat terrorism, extremism and drug trafficking. Imankulov also pointed to common ground in resolving the situation in Afghanistan and its implications for peace, security and stability in the region.

On trade, Kazakhstan’s Security Council secretary said trade, economic and humanitarian cooperation between Central and South Asia is gaining new impetus. “The disclosure of this enormous potential is conditioned on securing our space on a coordinator basis,” he said.

In his speech, Shalar Geldynazarov, Turkmenistan’s Special Envoy to India, emphasized the need to join forces to strengthen the partnership between the Central Asian countries and India to address all regional and global challenges such as international terrorism, drug arms smuggling and cross-border organized crime.

“The meeting is seen by Turkmenistan as one of the mechanisms to develop a unified regional approach to ensure peace and stability and provide security for Afghanistan,” he said. (Arnie)
