Abu Dhabi has created a new extreme adventure destination for cyclists – a 15km non-stop mountain bike trail designed to complement the existing cycling trails on Al Huderiyat Island.
Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Member of the Executive Committee and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Administrative Office, opened Trail X on Hudayriyat Island, This is the first mountain bike trail of its kind in Abu Dhabi.
The facility is designed to international standards, with tracks and terrain simulating natural topography and unobstructed views of the Abu Dhabi skyline. The tracks are e-bike compatible and open to cyclists of all ages and skill levels.
Sheikh Khaled was accompanied by Saif Saeed Al Ghobash, Secretary General of Abu Dhabi Executive Council; Matar Suhail Al Yabhouni, Chairman of Abu Dhabi Cycling Club; and Bill O’Regan, CEO of ModonProperties.
O’Regan commented: “The launch of Trail X underscores the Abu Dhabi Government’s vision to position the emirate as a regional hub for cycling and sport. Today’s launch follows Abu Dhabi’s recent success as the only city in the Middle East to be awarded the title of Cycling City The label from the Swiss UCI (International Cycling Union) will play an important role in promoting the emirate’s profile as a major tourist destination for sports, leisure and entertainment.
“The project is also another example of Abu Dhabi’s commitment to developing a variety of world-class sports facilities and attractions.”
Launched in November 2021 by Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed, Bike Abu Dhabi is a favorable platform to advance Abu Dhabi’s long-term cycling goals and development into a world-class cycling hub.

The platform aims to further promote cycling as a health and leisure activity, a sustainable mode of transport and a competitive sport for amateurs and professionals.
Other cycling infrastructure developments planned under the Bike Abu Dhabi platform include the Abu Dhabi Loop, a 109km designated cycle path linking attractions around the city, and a new 3,500-seat velodrome at Hudayriyat , track racing facilities will be provided.
