Dubai and Abu Dhabi top InterNations’ 2022 ranking of cities for expats, released last week. InterNations is considered the largest expat community in the world with over 4.5 million expatriate members.
Out of a total of 50 cities, Dubai was named the second best city for expats. Abu Dhabi ranks ninth on the list. The report looks at different criteria individually and cumulatively to summarize the results. Indexes include quality of life, public transportation, personal finances, sense of security, ease of settling in, cost of living, career prospects, social life well-being, and more.
Valencia was named the best city for expats, with respondents saying it offered the best quality of life of the 50 cities ranked in the report. 92% of expats feel safe in Valencia, and the city also ranks high for expat essentials.
The expat city rankings are based on a survey of 11,970 expats representing 177 nationalities living in 181 countries.

Expats rated the city top on several criteria, most importantly quality of life and ease of settling in. Expats also report that the ease of accessing government services and dealing with local authorities is high in the emirate.
Dubai also topped the list for satisfaction with car infrastructure, dining, nightlife and culture. Expats say they are satisfied with their jobs (70% are satisfied, compared to 64% globally) and say the local business culture encourages creativity.
Abu Dhabi
In the health and wellbeing subcategory, Abu Dhabi ranks first overall for the availability and quality of healthcare services. Abu Dhabi ranks second in the Expat Essentials Index. Expats also said moving to Abu Dhabi improved their career prospects compared to the global average and found it easy to settle and open a bank account here.
