The Lion King, football, fireworks: 10 events to take place in Abu Dhabi this winter – News

A range of exciting events including cultural exhibitions, the return of popular festivals and a spectacular end to the football season

The next few days will set the tone for an exciting winter in Abu Dhabi. There’s a slew of exciting events here, including cultural exhibitions, the return of popular festivals, the football season entering a commercial end and fireworks displays for the Sheikh Zayed Festival.

Here is a list of all the spectacular happenings in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and Al Dhafra:

1. Pearl of Wisdom Exhibition

Qasr Al Watan presents the Pearl of Wisdom exhibition, taking visitors on a historical journey, exploring the influence of Arab culture on Europe and highlighting the role of Arab civilization in fostering religious dialogue and contributing knowledge, paving the way for the European Renaissance . It is open to the public until January 6th from 10am to 5.30pm, tickets are available at https://www.qasralwatan.ae

2. Return of Mother’s Day

From Friday until December 18, the Abu Dhabi Corniche will be transformed into a destination for excitement, inspiration and fun. Mother’s Day will offer unprecedented family entertainment, live performances, immersive art experiences, international cuisine and pop-up stores. Khaleeji music superstar Miami band returns on opening night. Tickets are available through www.ticketmaster.ae. The event will be open weekdays from 4pm to midnight and weekends from 4pm to 2am.

3. Tennis Fans Roadshow

The Mubadala World Tennis Championships (MWTC) will tour several malls in Abu Dhabi as part of the entertainment and events roadshow. Held at Forsan Central Mall on Thursdays and Fridays and completing the tour at Mushrif Mall (13-15 December), the event will feature an interactive ‘slingshot’ game and prizes for participants. The tournament runs from December 16-18 and features three of the world’s top five players. Tickets can be purchased through www.mubadalawtc.com.

4. Fireworks for Sheikh Zayed Festival

Cultural events and entertainment at pavilions and stalls reflecting the great achievements of the UAE continued to be celebrated on Sheikh Zayed Day. Fireworks will be set off in the skies over Al Wathba at 10pm on Saturday night. More than 27 countries participate in this annual festival with hundreds of performances, diverse performances and more than 60 restaurants serving food and drink.

5. Book Festival 100 events

The third edition of the Al Dhafra Book Festival will feature more than 100 events from 40 publishers and distributors under the theme “Celebrating Cultural Heritage”. It will be held on Friday at a public park in Zayed City, Al Dhafra district. There will be cultural nights celebrating famous and popular poets and artists from Al Dhafra, workshops for children and teens, performances, story readings, art corners and more.

6. Disney’s The Lion King Musical

Running until Saturday at the Etihad Arena, this is the final week of Disney’s Broadway musical The Lion King running in Abu Dhabi. The show premiered in the Middle East for the first time. 7. The 2nd Thailand Festival

From Friday to Sunday, the city’s Umm Al Emarat Park hosted the second Thai Festival, organized by the Thai Embassy in Abu Dhabi, for a weekend of fun and culture. The festival will showcase different aspects of Thai culture and traditions through a series of events, performances and workshops, including cooking shows, muay thai, Fridays from 3pm to 10pm and Saturdays from 10am to 10pm at the park Good food and Sunday.

8. Masdar City Central Park reopens

A family festival will be held to celebrate the reopening of Abu Dhabi’s expanded Masdar City Central Park. There will be children’s musicals themed around family fairy tales such as Alice and Friends and The Snow Queen show, sports and games to coincide with football season, magic shows, arts and crafts, live entertainment, yoga classes and a food outlet. Admission is free and the festival runs from 4pm to 10pm on Saturdays and Sundays through December 25th.

9. MASmash returns to Manarat Al Saadiyat

MASmash’s annual showcase, which highlights the cultural ties of animation in the region, returns to Manarat Al Saadiyat on Sunday and Monday. The event includes a series of nostalgic performances, workshops, exhibitions, games and events, showcasing and celebrating the region’s creative leaders and bringing the voices of renowned actors and exhibitors to the emirate. The event will be held at Manarat Al Saadiyat from 10am to 8pm.

10. Ayn Yas Island Fan Zone

The FIFA World Cup viewing experience on Fanzone – Yas Links features one of the largest football viewing screens in the country, creating an exciting atmosphere for fans and their families. As well as watching all the quarter-final action, visitors can challenge their friends and family to an interactive football-themed game. In the Al Ain Fan Zone, people can watch the game in a convivial atmosphere while enjoying live entertainment and interactive games at Al Ain Square.
