On November 21, 1982, 3-year-old Lauren Delling greeted Mr. Bingle at the Clearview Mall in Metairie. Santa and Mr. Bingle’s helicopter arrives at the mall, making Rex and Comus’s carnival meeting the most important social event of the year with hundreds of children and parents’ pram caravan. “This is the first time Mr. Bingle has been brought to life, and his first time in the suburbs,” says Monroe Horton, manager of Maison Blanche in Clearview.
