Sukaina Owane
Another Moroccan expatriate, Soukaina Aouane, is on top of the world and has been praying for her team to defend their one-goal advantage.
“I kept praying when Portugal were close to scoring. We missed a couple of chances to score the second. The result was historic for us. We were the first African nation to reach the semi-finals of the World Cup. It meant a lot. We got down to 10 people, but they insisted on rewriting the history books. This is our dream come true,” she said.
Gijo Joseph
Meanwhile, Indian expatriate Jijo Joseph is excited about the prospect of non-European or South American teams vying for World Cup glory. Interestingly, he was supposed to fly to Trivandrum, Kerala, just before 9.15pm, but the flight was rescheduled to leave early in the morning.
“Initially, I was disappointed because my flight was delayed, but then I saw the amazing quarter-final encounter in which the Moroccan set a record by overtaking Portugal. Ronaldo’s last World Cup game. I strongly believe that Morocco has the potential to make it all the way to the final and challenge for the final prize.”
Morocco will return for the semi-finals on Wednesday.
