Bahrain-British racing team 2 Seas Motorsport finished in the top eight with both cars in today’s 12 Hours of the Gulf at Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi.
The endurance racing event has 34 cars, of which 2 Seas is the two-time defending champion.
But after some troubles at the start of the weekend, 2 Seas bounced back in qualifying yesterday to leave with a solid starting position.
The qualifying round is divided into four quarters and the average time of each team member is calculated.
The 2 Seas trio of Shaikh Isa bin Abdulla bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Martin Kodric and His Highness Hunter Abbott finished sixth in the GT3 Pro-Am class and 14th overall in the No. 1 Mercedes-AMG-GT3.
Their average best lap time was one minute 53.325 seconds, just 1.851 seconds behind pole-sitter Mercedes-AMG TeamGruppeM Racing.
2 Seas’ other team of Lewis Williamson, Aaron Walker and James Cottingham led their No. 51 challenger to eighth in the GT3 Pro-Am class and 17th overall .
Their best lap average was 1:53.570, 2.095 seconds ahead of the leaders.
2 Seas put in an impressive performance earlier yesterday, with the HH Shaikh Isa-Kodric Abbott trio taking first place in free practice and third overall.
Their fastest lap was 1:52.457.
Williamson-Walker-Cottingham finished seventh in his class and 14th overall with a time of 1:53.044.
In the second free practice session, Williamson-Walker-Cottingham was third in the Pro-Ams with a best lap time of 1:52.722 and ninth overall, 2 Seas ahead.
HH Shaikh Isa-Kodric-Abbott finished 10th in his class and 21st overall with a time of 1:53.547.
The 12 Hours of the Gulf is scheduled to start today at 9am Bahrain time.
The event has a new format, with for the first time in its history, consecutive 12-hour races will be played instead of two 6-hour segments as before.
