On Sunday, Sharjah Police arrested a gang of eight on charges of counterfeiting and using counterfeit currency to commit fraud.
Colonel Omar Buwalzod explained that the department had received information about a group of people counterfeiting cash. According to the informant, several security teams specialized in such criminal activities were established to track and hunt down the gang.
He said the monitoring and follow-up team had discovered the identity of the gang, whose members had recently come to the country. They deceive their victims by claiming they have the ability to double their money and sell (fake) foreign currency for less than market value in exchange for real cash.
He explained that the team set up a tight ambush and captured the suspects one by one. The search resulted in the seizure of counterfeit foreign currency banknotes, equipment and technical equipment for counterfeiting currency, as well as tools and ink used to counterfeit counterfeit currency.
The chief of criminal investigations praised the task force and its efforts to catch gang members quickly, albeit with great caution.
He called on the public to work with the police and report any suspicious situations around them without hesitation to reduce similar crimes.
