The Abu Dhabi Ministry of Culture and Tourism (DCT Abu Dhabi) supports the ambitious plan to turn the UAE capital into a global integrated martial arts (MMA) center.
At the ceremony on Tuesday 24day In August, DCT Abu Dhabi announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the United Arab Emirates Mixed Martial Arts Federation (UAEMMAF) and Palms Sports, a sports management and training company based in the UAE.
The memorandum of understanding outlines the formal cooperation between the three entities to develop mixed martial arts in the country as a step to consolidate Abu Dhabi’s reputation as the global capital of the sport.
It was also announced at the signing ceremony that DCT Abu Dhabi had signed a five-year sponsorship agreement with the UAE Warriors, a popular MMA fighting event organized by Palms Sports.
The event was attended by HE Ali Hassan Al Shaiba, Executive Director of Tourism and Marketing at DCT Abu Dhabi; Mohammed bin Dalmouk Al Dhahiri, Chairman of UAE MMAF; and Fouad Darwish, CEO of Palms Sports and UAE Warriors.
“Today marks another milestone for DCT Abu Dhabi. Working closely with our partners in UAEMMAF and Palms Sports, we are pleased to announce that we will cooperate to promote and develop the UAE’s MMA ecosystem,” HE Al Shaiba said. “This strategic agreement will play a key role in promoting the development of the UAE into the MMA world capital and enhancing Abu Dhabi’s status as the preferred destination for sports tourism.”
Al Dhahiri praised DCT Abu Dhabi for its key role in promoting the Emirate as an outstanding tourist destination. He said that Abu Dhabi has successfully established this position by hosting large-scale international sporting events, thanks to Abu Dhabi’s excellent facilities, renowned hospitality and state-of-the-art infrastructure. Al Dhahiri added that this cooperation will further enhance Abu Dhabi’s influence on the global MMA stage and consolidate the emirate’s position as the main hub of the sport.
Darwish said: “Abu Dhabi has become synonymous with world-class cultural and sporting events. This is especially true after the successful hosting of UFC Fight Island in 2020 and 2021.
“Thanks to the generous support of many government departments and sports officials, the UAE Warriors gained considerable momentum after relaunching under the management of Palms Sports in early 2019. Our absolute presence in Abu Dhabi is enough to allow us to achieve record time Achieve success within and accumulate all these achievements and honors.”
DCT Abu Dhabi’s sponsorship of the UAE Warriors will support the series, making it the leading event in the industry. Since the announcement of the sponsorship agreement, the first editions of the event are “UAE Warriors 19: Arab 3” on June 18 and “UAE Warriors 20” on June 19. Both events have attracted MMA athletes from all over the world. The fans are very interested because of the reports of the international media.
