Emirates and United expand market presence with new agreement

Emirates and United Airlines have announced a historic commercial agreement that will strengthen each airline’s network and make it easier for their customers to travel to hundreds of new destinations in the US and around the world*.

From November, Emirates passengers flying to Chicago, San Francisco and Houston – the three largest US business hubs – will be able to easily connect on a single ticket with United flights to and from nearly 200 cities in the Americas.

At the eight other US airports Emirates serves – Boston, Dallas, Los Angeles, Miami, JFK, Orlando, Seattle and Washington, D.C. – interline arrangements will be available for both airlines.

United will launch new non-stop flights between Newark and Dubai starting in March 2023 – from there, customers will be able to travel to more than 100 cities with Emirates or its sister airline, flydubai. Tickets for United’s new Dubai flight are on sale now.

Emirates and United announced their agreement today at a ceremony at Dulles International Airport, chaired by United CEO Scott Kirby and Emirates President Sir Tim Clark, United and Emirates Boeing 777-300ER aircraft and crew from each airline.

United Airlines CEO Scott Kirby said: “This agreement brings together two iconic flag carriers in a shared commitment to creating the best customer experience in the sky. Customers of both airlines will soon be able to book these connecting flights on a single ticket – making check-in and luggage transfers faster and easier. For example, travelers can visit United.com or use the United app to book flights from New York/Newark to Karachi, Pakistan, or go to Emirates.com to book flights from Dubai to Atlanta or Honolulu.

The agreement will also give members of the two airlines’ loyalty programs more opportunities to earn even more rewards: Emirates Skywards members can quickly earn miles on United-operated flights, and United MileagePlus Plus) members flying United New York/Newark to Dubai will earn and redeem miles when connecting between Emirates and flydubai.

Eligible passengers on codeshare flights will also soon have access to Emirates and United lounges. Further details on frequent flyer rewards and lounge sharing benefits will be announced in the coming weeks.

Both airlines have recently announced major investments in customer experience. Emirates will revamp more than 120 aircraft as part of a $2 billion plan that will include enhanced food and beverage options, a new vegetarian menu, a “cinema in the sky” experience, cabin interior upgrades and sustainable options.

At United, the airline will add 500 new Boeing and Airbus planes to its fleet, with a focus on new signature interiors including seat-back screens at every seat, larger overhead bins, Bluetooth connectivity throughout and the industry’s fastest in-flight Wi-Fi. – trade arab news agency
