MILWAUKEE, Wisconsin (AP) — Patti LaBelle was rushed offstage just a few songs at a Christmas concert in Milwaukee after a bomb threat forced authorities to evacuate the theater.
milwaukee sentinel Report Video taken Saturday night from the Riverside Theater showed Labelle, 78, chatting with an audience member when what appeared to be two security guards interrupted her. They kicked her off the stage. Shortly after, it was announced that the nearly full 2,500-seat theater had to be evacuated due to a bomb threat.
Catherine Brunson, who documented the evacuation on Facebook Live, told the paper that the evacuation happened at around 9:24 p.m. after two songs were played at LaBelle’s concert
“We came out and the police taped the block. … A lot of people were upset. … It was scary,” Brunson said.
Scott Pierce, who was also at the concert, said everyone left the theater peacefully but “it’s sad that someone did that”.
Milwaukee Police Capt. Warren Allen Jr. said in a statement earlier Sunday that the K9 unit searched the theater and found no explosive devices, so there was no threat to the public.
Labelle had not issued a statement on social media about the evacuation as of Sunday morning. The Pabst Theater Group, which operates the Riverside Theater, said it will work with LaBelle to reschedule performances in the future.
