[ad_1]

Abu Dhabi: In view of the UAE’s hosting of COP28 in 2023 and climate change and global environmental issues, Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi launched the “Go Green 2023” initiative in the presence of Sorbonne Rector Prof. Nathalie Drach-Temam, Prof. Silvia Serrano , the Vice-Chancellor of the Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi and members of the academic, administrative and student bodies.

“Go Green 2023” aims to increase awareness of the University community on the topic of climate change, build the capacity of students, and strengthen their participation in developing initiatives to address climate change challenges, environmental issues, and contribute to a more sustainable future.

Organized by the University’s Department of Geography and Planning, the initiative focuses on three key themes, including reducing the carbon footprint, sustainable development activities and conducting collaborative environmental research.

In this regard, Professor Silvia Serrano, President of the Sorbonne University in Abu Dhabi, said: “The purpose of launching this initiative is to integrate students into global activities, raise awareness of current environmental problems, share practical solutions, and empower students to think innovatively and critically. sustainable development and strengthen the role of universities as leading institutions for research.”

Professor Serrano continued: “These initiatives will encourage students to take an active role in topics related to climate risk around our world and involve them in finding sustainable solutions to environmental challenges and mitigating the negative impacts of climate change.”

The Going Green initiative complements the Paris Climate Agreement (COP21), which sets the benchmark for global efforts to increase governments’ long-term ambition and commitment to improve climate change and protect the environment.

The initiative aligns with the University’s Corporate Social Responsibility initiative, which works to create a more sustainable environment and contributes to the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals by working to reduce carbon emissions and increase resilience to climate change.
