World News | Bangladesh foreign minister calls for resumption of Guwahati-Dhaka air service

Dhaka [Bangladesh], December 14 (ANI): Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Pranay Kumar Verma held talks with Bangladesh Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen on Tuesday. During the meeting, the two sides discussed issues of common concern.

During the meeting, AK Abdul Momen highlighted the resumption of Guwahati-Dhaka air services and stressed the need for a direct air link between Guwahati and Sylhet. He highlighted the need for direct bus services between Sylhet-Silchar to facilitate people-to-people connections, strengthen bilateral relations and ensure the shared prosperity of the region.

According to a press release issued by Bangladesh’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, AK Abdul Momen expressed his gratitude to India for inviting Bangladesh to participate in the G20 meeting as a “country of guest” during its G20 presidency.

Notably, India assumed the G20 presidency on 1 December for a one-year term. He emphasized that Bangladesh’s participation in the G20 meeting will safeguard its country’s image in the regional environment.

Bangladesh’s foreign minister called for “bolder solidarity” to tackle challenges facing the global South, including COVID-19, the crisis in Europe and financing the climate emergency and implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals.

During the meeting, AK Abdul Momen reviewed the arrangements made by the Government of India to participate in the first Silchar-Sylhet Festival during his recent visit to Silchar, Assam from 1st to 3rd December.

In addition, Momen pointed out that according to the press release of the Bangladesh Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Prime Ministers of India and Bangladesh have emphasized on different occasions to establish a common platform to promote understanding and cooperation to further strengthen the relationship between the two countries.

AK Abdul Momen further stated: “Under their guidance, the festival revisits the ties, heritage, historical culture and linguistic affinities between the two countries to strengthen the ancient bonds between people.”

Bangladeshi Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen led a delegation of MPs to Silchar, Assam for the “Silchar-Sylhet Festival 2022”.

A Bangladeshi delegation led by the foreign minister crossed the dry port of Siora on the Sylhet border this morning. Indian authorities welcomed Momen and other members of the Bangladesh delegation at the Sutarkandi ICP.

Expressing his deep satisfaction during the two-day “Silchar-Sylhet Festival-2022”, Momen said, “After 50 years, I had the privilege of crossing the Bangladesh-India border via Shewla-Sutarkandi, and my delegation honors them A warm welcome to us.”

AK Abdul Momen thanked the Indian authorities and said Indians are warm and friendly. “This is a historic event because two neighbors can come together in an atmosphere of hope and aspiration,” he said. He was invited as chief guest to participate in the “1st Silchar-Sylhet Festival – 2022” (ANI )
