His Excellency the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade. Jeremiah Manerai met government officials from the United Arab Emirates as the oil-rich Arab nation prepares to host COP28 in November 2023.
Minister Manele, accompanied by Ambassador Moses Kouni Mose and Emirati businessman and entrepreneur Mr. Mohammed Albloushi, met with His Excellency Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, Managing Director and Group CEO of Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) . Also in attendance were HE Hana Al Hashimi, UAE Special Envoy on Climate Change, Dr HE Adnan Z Amin, Senior Advisor, and Ahmed Chardaqa, an expert.

The meeting allowed Minister Manele to reiterate Solomon Islands’ presence at the International Renewable Energy Conference to be held on 14-15 January 2023, which will also coincide with the launch of the UAE’s COP28 presidency.
The UAE had earlier extended an invitation to Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare, which included leaders of other Pacific islands belonging to Small Island Developing States (SIDS).
Minister Manele also used the opportunity to explain the various challenges facing Solomon Islands, including the effects of climate change and access to the Global Climate Fund for mitigation and adaptation.
Honey. Manele also took the opportunity to congratulate His Excellency Dr Sultan on the UAE’s successful hosting of Expo 2020 Dubai, saying the country has shown great resilience in the face of the unprecedented challenges posed by the covid-19 pandemic.
His Excellency Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber welcomed Minister Manele and his delegation, adding that the UAE Government stands ready to assist SIDS.
The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) coordinates the SIDS Lighthouse Initiative to accelerate SIDS’ energy transition and increase their climate resilience.

Minister Manele was also pleased to introduce Mr. Mohamad AlBlooshi, the first UAE national to register a Terra Verde company in the Solomon Islands after Expo 2020 Dubai.

During Expo 2020 Dubai, a strategic alliance was formed at this historic moment, prompting local investor and businessman Mohammad Alblooshi to meet a group of foreign investors and visit the Solomon Islands for tourism investment opportunities.
Mohamad Alblooshi is the first Emirati to visit the Solomon Islands following the UAE’s landmark agreement on reciprocal visa arrangements, under which citizens of both countries can enter each other’s country without a visa for up to 90 days, with passports valid for a minimum of six months.
Local businessmen, partners and shareholders of Salties and friends from the Solomon Islands attended a traditional Emirati dinner event.
