Wizz Air Abu Dhabi, the ultra-low-fare national airline of the United Arab Emirates, has launched a new route from Abu Dhabi to Samarkand, the second largest city in Uzbekistan.
The new route provides hassle-free point-to-point travel for tourists and residents of the UAE and Uzbekistan. Tickets start as low as AED 179 (US$ 48.7).
One of the oldest cities in the world and one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in Central Asia, Samarkand is a UNESCO World Heritage Site with a rich historical heritage. Located on the ancient trade route linking China to the Mediterranean Sea, Samarkand is an important center of human civilization with a breathtaking culture. Its must-see list includes beautiful mausoleums and the incredible madrasa Registan, the center of the city, arguably the most impressive place in Central Asia.
Since launching in January 2021, the national carrier now flies to more than 36 destinations within a five-hour flight time radius of Abu Dhabi. Flights from Samarkand to Abu Dhabi operate on Tuesdays and Saturdays, increasing frequency to three times a week by 2023.
Michael Berlouis, Managing Director of Wizz Air Abu Dhabi, said: “We welcome our seventh and eighth aircraft and are delighted to expand our growing network in Central Asia, an important growth market for Wizz Air Abu Dhabi. The new route to the must-see historic region will be operated by two state-of-the-art Airbus A321neo aircraft recently added to our fleet.
“Wizz Air Abu Dhabi is committed to supporting the long-term growth of tourism in the UAE with an eclectic mix of new and fantastic destinations. We will continue to make travel options easier and more affordable for everyone and we look forward to seeing you aboard our young and sustainable aircraft.”
Anton Khodjayan, CEO of Air Marakanda, said: “We are delighted to welcome our new partner, Wizz Air Abu Dhabi, whose non-stop flights between the ancient city of Samarkand and the UAE commenced today, which is great for Uzbekistan’s aviation and tourism industry. Said to be a significant event. The Maracanda Air team worked hard to make this happen as it opens up new travel opportunities for residents of Samarkand and the region and will attract Middle Eastern tourists to our beautiful city. I assure you that we at Air Malacanda will do everything possible to provide comfort and convenience to our new guests.” – trade arab news agency
