Dhaka [Bangladesh]Dec 15 (ANI): Bangladeshi Muktijuda Mancha (BMM) has written a memorandum to Pakistani Prime Minister Sheikh Baz Sharif demanding an unconditional apology for the attacks and atrocities committed during the 1971 Liberation War.

In the memo, BMM wrote, “Demands the government of Pakistan, and in particular the Pakistani Army, to apologize unconditionally to our Prime Minister and Leader Sheikh Hasina and the people of Bangladesh for the atrocities of the Bangabandhu killings, the 21st grenade attack, and the people of Bangladesh. The atrocities of the liberation struggle of 1971.”

The memorandum also calls for Pakistan to cease overt or covert engagement with those opposing our freedom struggle and to cease the trial of Pakistani troops involved in killing and genocide during the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War.

In the memo, Bangladesh’s Muktijuddha Mancha drew attention to Bangladesh’s liberation struggle in 1971 and said that 3 million people were killed during the war and 200,000 women were raped by the Pakistani army. The party also said Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence was directly involved in the killing of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

“In retaliation for the surrender in the Liberation War, Pakistan started plotting against the Bangabandhu government. With the help of Zia Mostak, Pakistan killed Bangabandhu and his family in the most brutal political killing in the world, ’ the memo read.

On 21 August 2004, Pakistan also visited and supplied BNP-Jamaat-Huji with grenades to kill Shiekh Hasina, the daughter of Bangabandhu. Human Protection was created by some Awami League leaders to save Sheikh Hasina’s life. In the end, Sheikh Hasina was saved but 24 Awami League leaders were killed by the grenade attack,” it added.

Bangladeshi Muktijuda Mancha also said Pakistan cannot escape responsibility for the killings. The party threatened Pakistan saying they would oblige their government to sever all diplomatic ties with Pakistan if the country continued to support terrorism in Bangladesh.

“We demand that the United Nations bring the Pakistani military to trial by the International War Crimes Tribunal for their involvement in the 1971 genocide and killing of intellectuals,” the party concluded in its judgment.

The latest good news for Bangladesh is that Pakistan’s “genocide” of Bangladeshis and Hindus in the 1971 war was finally recognized, as the US House of Representatives condemned Islamabad’s actions and called on President Biden to acknowledge the atrocities.

Legislation introduced by MPs Ro Khanna and Steve Chabot would recognize Pakistan’s atrocities against minorities as crimes against humanity, war crimes and genocide.

“…condemns the atrocities committed by the Pakistani Armed Forces against the people of Bangladesh between March 1971 and December 1971; recognizes that such atrocities against ethnic Bengali and Hindus constitute crimes against humanity, war crimes and genocide ; calls upon the President of the United States to recognize the atrocities committed by the Pakistani Armed Forces against ethnic Bengalis and Hindus in 1971 as crimes against humanity, war crimes and genocide,” the legislation reads.
