Fireworks, concerts, World Cup screenings and more this weekend

The weekend offered community members in the capital a host of fun-filled family activities, entertainment, concerts, fireworks, the FIFA World Cup, Arabic Language Day celebrations and more.

Visitors to this year’s National Mother’s Day, which ends this Sunday, have plenty to choose from. A concert by Egyptian artist Mohamed Hamaki will captivate crowds on Saturday, while the final day will feature a second show by Miami Band, a popular Khaleeji group from Kuwait. Apart from the music, visitors can enjoy thrill zones, amusement parks, food stalls, art installations, over a dozen rides and games and more at the festival at Abu Dhabi Corniche.

UAE, Japanese bands and fireworks

Live music by Emirati drum band ‘Kharsha’ and Japanese drum band Sai will delight visitors at the Sheikh Zayed Music Festival in Al Wathba. There will also be a dazzling fireworks display at 10pm. Kharsha and Sai have participated in many high-profile events, especially those that reflect UAE-Japan cultural relations through performances and programs designed to reflect the vibrancy of the two cultures. There is also a screening of the FIFA World Cup final.

Indian classical music

Shujaat Khan, considered one of the icons of Indian classical music, will perform at the Cultural Foundation at 8pm. He is widely known as the greatest living sitar player and has brought this musical art to audiences all over the world. For his debut in Abu Dhabi, Khan will perform with leading tabla players Amit Choubey and Nihar Mehta. Tickets can be purchased through ticketmaster.ae.

Celebrate Arabic Language Day

On Sunday, Umm Al Emarat Park hosted a series of creative events to commemorate the contribution of the Arabic language to human civilization and culture. Visitors can enjoy Bait Al Arabi’s puppet shows and hakawati storytelling performances, and avid readers will also have the opportunity to purchase a range of Arabic books that will be on display at Bait Al Arabi. There will be three calligraphy workshops and an Arabic quiz with prizes.

Abu Dhabi Moments at MBZ City​​

Until Sunday, Abu Dhabi Moments, community initiatives and family-friendly entertainment will take place at Mohamed bin Zayed City Park. Organized by the Department of Community Development, the event aims to improve the quality of life for residents. From 4pm to 11pm, there will be a variety of events, challenges and competitions for community members.

Family friendly football fan zone

Families can enjoy the final two days of the biggest sporting event, the FIFA World Cup, on Abu Dhabi’s largest outdoor giant screen at Yas Links, Abu Dhabi. They can attend several events, concerts and video game areas. In addition, the Al Ain Fans Zone is a great option for residents to watch the game in a lively atmosphere. And there will be several interactive football-themed games and activities for the whole family.
