UAE, Indonesia strengthen partnership in aerospace sector

An aviation industry delegation from the Indonesian city of Bandung, West Java, recently visited the UAE and formed partnerships with three Abu Dhabi-based companies.

According to the head of the visiting delegation and PT Dirgantara, PT Dirgantara Indonesia (Persero) held a business meeting with Global Aerospace Logistics LLC (GAL/AMMROC), Strata and Calidus Aerospace on Tuesday, December 13 at the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia Indonesia – Gita Ameriawan, President/Director of PTDI (Persero).

PTDI (Persero) was established in 1976 under the Ministry of State Enterprises. It is involved in the design, development and manufacture of civil and military aircraft, and has delivered 450 NC212i light fixed-wing monoplanes and CN235 medium-range twin-engine aircraft to customers around the world so far.

Established in 2007, GAL/AMMROC is a privately held entity and source of professional aerospace services.

Strata, owned by Mubadala Investments, was established in 2009 and has formed alliances with leading international aircraft manufacturers. Its mission is to advance and facilitate the capital’s leading aerospace centre.

Calidus Aerospace (Calidus) is also a private company founded in 2015. It designs and manufactures safe, innovative, reliable and competitive aviation and land systems products and services.

In a recent interview, Amperiawan said: “We met with our UAE counterparts to strengthen the existing short- and long-term cooperation and partnership between Indonesia and the UAE in the field of aerospace and technology, as President Joko Widodo and United Airlines As promised. His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates.”

At the meeting, it was agreed that PTDI (Persero) and GAL/AMMROC would jointly contract for the modernization and service life extension or use and upgrade and potential of the C130 four-engine turboprop military aircraft. Selling the existing CN235, Indonesia has been producing it in cooperation with Spain’s Casa.

“We agreed to review joint projects related to maintenance, repair and overhaul of C130 military aircraft,” Amperiawan said.

Regarding the partnership between PTDI (Persero) and Calidus, the meeting was related to the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding dated June 30, 2022, which calls for the two companies to continue “joint marketing” of the CN235 and the 16-meter utility N219, the highest manufactured by the former aircraft with a speed of 389 kilometers per hour; in addition to the B250 tandem-seat turboprop light attack aircraft with counter-insurgency capabilities, B350 mainboards and other technological products, including the latter’s drones.

Part of the enhancement of the MoU between PTDI Persero and Calidus is the “future capacity building collaboration” that the former will provide to support the Calidus project, specifically “the potential demand for firefighting aircraft from Calidus customers”.

Husin Bagis, Indonesia’s ambassador to the UAE, said: “We hope these will gradually increase the company’s revenue, profitability and business.

Bagis led a site visit to the GAL/AMMROC, Strata and Calidus manufacturing and production facilities in Al Ain.

They were moderated by GAL/AMMROC Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Mahmood Ali Hameli, Strata CEO Ismail Abdullah, Calidus Aerospace CEO Fariz Mazroui and Vice President Aerospace Operations Jamal Alameri.

Meanwhile, on the B20 platform, policymakers, civil society and businesses from the world’s top 20 economies engage in dialogue at an international level, Indonesia is the previous chair of the G20, and the November 2022 summit is held in Bali, with businessmen from Activity is maximized in the UAE and Indonesia.

On November 12, 16 commercial agreements were signed, including PTDI (Persera) and GLL/AMMROC (Saturday), during the Indonesia-United Arab Emirates Investment Forum, initiated by the UAE Ministry of Economy in cooperation with the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

In that context, Bagis said: “So at the moment, the relationship between Indonesia and the UAE is closer than ever before. Today, Abu Dhabi National Oil Company, Abu Dhabi 16 commercial agreements were signed by major companies such as Etihad Holdings, Etihad, Borouge, Emirates Global Aluminum, G42, Barq EV, Burjeel and Alserkal. Apart from this, there are also those in the defense sector such as GAL/AMMROC, Lahab and Sanad “Multiple agreements,” the cooperation between businessmen from both countries covers petrochemicals, aviation, polymers, aluminum production; the manufacture of electric scooters and bicycles; health; waste management; financing and education.
