Former British Prime Minister David Cameron is set to return to public life by teaching at a university in Abu Dhabi.
According to sources, Cameron will teach students at New York University in Abu Dhabi on “Practicing Politics and Government in Chaotic Times”.
This will be a three-week course in January. It will contain topics about the Ukrainian-Russian war and the migrant crisis.
The former prime minister has kept a low profile since leaving the premiership.
He has experienced political chaos first-hand, given that Brexit tore apart his prime ministership and was the catalyst for his exit from Downing Street.
He served as prime minister from 2010 to 2016 while also overseeing the Brexit referendum.
His “Remain” campaign lost 48% to 52%, leading to his resignation and years of rolling chaos in British politics.
It’s not always clear whether Brexit will be baked into the curriculum.
A friend of the former prime minister said the NYU teaching position was a “logical extension” of his speaking at schools and universities, according to the Financial Times.
“He led the Conservative Party for 11 years and the country for six years and he will draw on his experience teaching the curriculum.”
NYU Abu Dhabi said it offers time-limited courses in many locations around the world.
“These courses offer students the possibility to look at politics collectively,” it said, adding that January’s classes were likely to be “taught by leading academics, writers, artists, journalists and analysts”.
NYU Abu Dhabi is the first full liberal arts and research campus in the Middle East to operate overseas through a premier American research university.
NYU Abu Dhabi combines an interdisciplinary, highly selective undergraduate program with a world center for advanced research and scholarship.
