The Republic of Korea National Day Reception was held on 8 December 2022 at the Al Mudhaif Ballroom at The St. Regis Abu Dhabi. The event marks the celebration in South Korea of ”the moment heaven opens,” a Korean national holiday commemorating the nation’s legendary formation some 50 years ago. Among the 400 people and delegates who attended the event were ambassadors from Japan and China. The event was also attended by Ahmed Ali Sayeq, Minister of State of the United Arab Emirates.
During the event, Yoo Jeh-seung, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to the UAE, highlighted the South Korean government’s vision for the future in his opening remarks. In his speech, the ambassador gave an overview of Korean culture before highlighting the bilateral relationship between South Korea and the UAE since 1980.
“The Republic of Korea and the UAE have been developing brotherly relations and a special strategic partnership. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1980, the two countries have achieved many achievements in different fields such as nuclear energy, military and defense industries, and economic and trade cooperation,” the ambassador said.
There are three special booths set up for this event, one is to support the 2030 Busan World Expo in Korea, the other is the booth of the Peaceful Reunification Advisory Committee and the Korean fruit tasting booth.
The Expo 2030 booth also presented echo bags with the Busan Expo logo to the guests. The host country for Expo 2030 will be chosen by the member countries of the BIE (Bureau Internationale des Expositions) who will gather at the General Assembly scheduled for November 2023 on the basis of one country, one vote.
The second booth is dedicated to the Peaceful Reunification Advisory Committee, which advises the President of the Republic of Korea on policy development and implementation of democracy and peaceful reunification.
Shine Muscat, Strawberry, and Tomango are the three main fruits prepared and served at the third stall, depicting Korean food culture, and the busiest stall. The freshness and sweetness of Korean fruits fascinated the guests, and they said they would continue to buy them in the future.
In addition, the ambassador also mentioned the establishment of K Culture as a Korean brand. In his speech, Ambassador Yoo Jae-seung emphasized the goals of the South Korean government led by President Yoon Seok-yeol, saying that the government strives to be a global leader and national security that contributes to the freedom, peace and prosperity of the international community while advancing diplomacy.
A South Korean government official testified to the strong relationship between the two countries and emphasized the importance of South Korean Akh troops deployed in the UAE. The ambassador reiterated South Korea’s support for the UAE, adding that South Korea firmly supports the Middle East country as a key partner in the successful realization of the UAE’s national vision. Among other things, the official said he hopes the two countries will foster mutually beneficial ties in areas such as energy security, healthcare and smart farms.
