The seven-time international award-winning film “Exam” is a joint production of the Kurdistan Regional Government, Germany and Qatar.
Kurdish-Iraqi drama by Shawkat Amin Korki take an exam — Iraq’s official submission to the 2023 Academy Awards — will have its first screening at the Al-Qattara Art Center in Al-Ain, Abu Dhabi on December 30 at 8pm.
The film tells the story of Rojin – a young Kurdish woman preparing to take the university entrance exam. At the same time, her sister Shilan, who had a troubled marriage, would do anything for her to pass the college entrance examination and regain a free life. As a result, the sisters were inevitably involved in a huge corruption network connecting all parties in society.
Directed by Shawkat Amin Korki, co-written by Iranian screenwriter Mohammad Reza Gohari, seven-time international award-winning film take an exam — starring Avan Jamal, Vania Salar, Hussein Hassan and Hoshyar Nerwayi — is a co-production of the Kurdistan Regional Government, Germany and Qatar.
The film won several prestigious awards, including the FIPRESCI Award for Best Film at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, the UNFPA Award at the Cairo International Film Festival and the Best Screenplay Award at the Tirana International Film Festival.
This is Korki’s second Oscar submission, the first being Tale of the Stone, the country’s official best foreign-language film submission at the 88th Academy Awards.
