NEW DELHI, Dec 19 (PTI) PTC India on Monday said it has reached an agreement with Bhutan’s power utility Druk Green Power Corporation Limited to supply 600 megawatts of electricity to the neighboring country during winter.

“Bhutan, through Druk Green Power Corporation Limited, has entered into an agreement with PTC India Ltd to purchase electricity from the Indian electricity market to meet electricity demand during the dry winter,” PTC India said in a statement.

Bhutan also signed an agreement with the Settlement Node Agency to settle costs related to grid operations, adding, “After obtaining all necessary approvals, Bhutan will now start procuring up to 600 MW of electricity from the Indian electricity market through the PTC. electricity”.

Rajib K Mishra, CMD, PTC India Ltd, said Bhutan, which has been exporting hydropower to India for years, needs to import power to meet its increased domestic energy demand during winter.

“Bhutan’s growing domestic demand now requires imported electricity during the dry winter months. This PPA (power purchase agreement) will help address such energy needs.
