United Nations, December 19 (PTI) UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said on Monday that it is absolutely imperative that the Taliban not allow any form of terrorist activity from Afghanistan that could affect any other country in the region.
“From the standpoint of the interests of the international community and Afghanistan’s own interests, we believe that the Taliban must deliver several clear things,” Guterres said.
Responding to a Pakistani reporter’s question about the Taliban at his year-end news conference, Guterres said the international community had made a “clear request” that “Afghanistan stop all forms of terrorist organization activities and that Afghanistan’s ties to neighboring countries, including Pakistan, pose a threat, so we are actively discussing this with the Taliban’s de facto authority.”
“We believe that it is absolutely imperative for the Taliban not to allow any form of terrorist activity that could have an impact on Pakistan as it has on any other country in the region,” Guterres said.
Another thing the Taliban has to offer is integration into the Afghan power structure, he added.
“We have different racial groups and it’s important that all racial groups are represented,” he said, adding that it was also important to ensure human rights, especially women’s and girls’ rights, and women’s right to work and girls’ rights not to be discriminated against attend schools at all levels.
