DUBAI (IraqiNews.com) – The premiere of Shawkat Amin Korki’s acclaimed Iraqi-Kurdish film THE EXAM will be held on December 30 at 8pm at Held at the Al-Qattara Arts Center in Al Ain, the film is Iraq’s official entry for the 2023 Academy Awards in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
The film follows Rojin, a young Kurdish woman who is preparing to take her university entrance exam. The older sister Se-ran, who is unhappy in her marriage, will do anything for her to pass the exam and give her a chance to live independently. As a result, the sisters are inevitably drawn into a vast web of corruption that permeates every aspect of society.
The seven-time international award-winning film Exam, starring Awan Jamal, Vanya Salar, Hussein Hassan and Hoshiar Nevaj, is a collaboration between the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government, Germany and Qatar. It is directed by renowned filmmaker Shaukat Amin Korki and co-written by Iranian screenwriter Mohammad Reza Ghohari.
The film won the Cairo International Film Festival UNFPA Award, Karlovy Vary International Film Festival Critics Best Film Award, Tirana International Film Festival Best Screenplay Award and many other awards.
