UAE University forms research partnership with NUS

Al Ain: The University of the United Arab Emirates has established many research partnerships with various international educational institutions to increase its research productivity and quality. This is in line with the University’s vision to be a research university that contributes to sustainable development in all areas and delivers creative and innovative solutions that will positively impact the development and prosperity of the UAE.

Dr Ahmed Ali Murad, vice provost for research at UAE University, said the university was working to strengthen its international partnerships with the Republic of Singapore. It prioritizes strategic partnerships with NUS in several key areas to support the University’s research strategy and enhance its research reputation.

Dr. Ahmed Murad said that UAE universities are undertaking a number of initiatives aimed at consolidating the framework of strategic cooperation between the two countries and supporting research projects. He pointed out that between 2018 and 2022, the number of research projects funded by UAE universities and in cooperation with the National University of Singapore is 17, covering different fields such as medicine, health sciences, science, agriculture, veterinary medicine, etc. , information technology, engineering, business and economics.

Agricultural and veterinary research projects include “Health risk assessment of Campylobacter in retail chicken meat in the United Arab Emirates: baseline monitoring and genomic insights into critical antimicrobial resistance” and “Gluten-free formulations using anisotropic hydrogels”. Plant-Based Meat Analogs” and Extrusion. “

In the field of medicine and health sciences, nine research projects were supported, including “Elucidation of the Molecular and Cellular Basis of Mendelian and Cardiovascular Diseases in the UAE” and “Deciphering the Genetic Causes of Familial Cardiovascular Diseases”. Under the engineering project, research entitled “Development of renewable thermal insulation materials based on poly(3-hydroxybutyrate) and date palm wood” was funded. Furthermore, on the scientific side, a research project titled “Uncovering the hidden potential of highly saline soils (sabkha): halophilic microbiomes, their functions and extremophilic potential (SalMicro)” and another project titled “Camel The research project “Detection and Determination of Endocrine Disruptors, Mycotoxins and Related Metabolites in Dairy Products in the UAE” was funded.

Dr Ahmad Murad also added that between 2017 and 2022, 154 research papers were published by UAE University faculty and researchers in collaboration with researchers from various universities and institutions in the Republic of Singapore.
