UAE: Ministry of Education eases university entry requirements for students – News

One-year conditional admission for high school graduates wishing to study at a university in the country

Students seeking admission to UAE universities can be exempted from EmSAT requirements and bridging courses, according to a new notification announced by the Ministry of Education (MoE) on Tuesday.

The Emirates Standardized Test (EmSAT) is a computer-based national examination system used to assess graduates of private and public schools, both domestically and internationally. The result of this test is one of the scores that must be submitted for admission to UAE universities.

According to the Ministry of Education Circular No. 137 of 2022, high school graduates can be exempted from this requirement and get conditional admission.

To be eligible, they must submit a “No Objection Conditional Offer of Admission” and complete one academic year at a college or university to gain final admission.

Dr Ahmad bin Abdullah Belhoul Al Falasi, Minister of Education, said: “The new circular defines a clear and flexible pathway for students to gain final admission into higher education institutions in the country after successfully passing their academic year. This serves students’ interests, And to enhance the nation’s university education system, increasing its competitiveness and quality.”

The minister added that the circular was issued after a comprehensive study during which the educational certificate equivalency process and deficiencies were reviewed.

“(The Ministry of Education has also) collected opinions and opinions from students and teachers in higher education institutions.”

According to the notification, higher education institutions can grant final admission to students if they provide the equivalent of a secondary school certificate issued by the Ministry of Education and pass the bridging courses prescribed by the Ministry of Education. “Notice of No Objection to Conditional Admission” issued by the Ministry of Education, or at least 24 credits (one academic year) in the registered major.

If a student does not meet any of the requirements by the end of the conditional offer period, the higher education institution may withdraw the offer or extend it for one semester.

In addition, the notice emphasized that higher education institutions must submit a report to the Ministry of Education at the beginning and end of each semester on students who have been admitted for secondary school equivalency. The report must include data about the student, the student’s grades, the student’s cumulative grade point average, and the higher education institution’s determination of the student’s status.

The Ministry of Education continues to work on improving the country’s schooling and higher education system according to the needs and aspirations of students, with the aim of improving the quality of education to meet the needs of the labor market.
