A woman has filed a lawsuit with the Abu Dhabi Family and Civil and Administrative Cases Court, claiming that her ex-husband is obliged to pay her Dh60,000 for the material and moral damage she has suffered.
She also asked the court to compel her ex-husband to pay legal costs.
The plaintiff explained that she was married to the respondent, who beat her, causing the injuries mentioned in a medical report, including pain, bruises and abrasions to the head, face and right arm.
The plaintiff noted that the matter was referred to the Criminal Court, which found the appellee guilty and imposed a fine of Dh8,000.
The court stated that the assault took place in the emirate of Abu Dhabi and that the medical report submitted by the complainant was issued by a hospital in Abu Dhabi.
The court noted that the criminal sentence for the conviction of the appellee was final and the plaintiff had suffered material damages as a result of the beating, therefore the appellee was obliged to compensate her ex-wife Dhs20,000 for the material and moral damages caused to her. Damages suffered, other than costs and expenses of litigation.
